Africa Fashion International (AFI) has been a key player in showcasing African fashion since 2007, through annually hosting the prolific AFI Fashion Weeks in Cape Town and Joburg. These events helped put African designers on the global map by giving them a platform to show their work to international audiences. However, as the fashion world changed, AFI realised it needed to evolve to stay relevant and continue supporting designers, customers, and partners effectively.
This led to the creation of the AFI Fashion Experience. Unlike traditional fashion weeks, the AFI Fashion Experience offers more than just runway shows. It combines fashion with music, art, culture and fashion retail, to create immersive and engaging events that are customer focused. This new format allows designers and brands to connect with their audiences in fresh, exciting ways, while giving customers and sponsors a richer, more memorable experience.

African Fashion International (AFI) presents African fashion and creative talent in a manner that makes fashion from the continent globally relevant and ensures that the world has market access to African product and design. Through the organization’s promotion, curation and support services, AFI ensures that the international community responds positively and commercially to African-designed products, that are readily available, unique and on-trend.
Through its Fashion Weeks, namely Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa, AFI opens up the continent to commercial projects, both locally and internationally, increasing the geographic spread and market access to the continent’s design equity, fashion apparel, accessories and crafts.
AFI showcases the best designers from the continent, offering them access to domestic and international market share, while also growing a platform meant to support the sustainability of the African fashion industry through job creation. AFI also remains committed to growing a new legion of designers through the AFI Fastrack programme.
In its CSI property – Design For Life – AFI utilizes fashion as a communication tool to promote, produce and sell merchandise aimed at increasing the awareness of women’s health concerns such as breast cancer.
