Comité de Développement et de Promotion de l’Habillement (DEFI)
The Committee for the Development and Promotion of French Clothing, otherwise denominated DEFI, was founded through a decree of the French Minister of Economy, Finances and Industry, dated December 20, 2000, in replacement of the Committee for the Development and the Promotion of French Textile and Clothing created in 1984.
Fédération Française de la Couture
The Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode was founded in 1973.
The association began as the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, which dates to 1868. The Fédération’s headquarters have been located at 100 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, Paris 8e, since 1935.
The Fédération is the executive body for each of the specific Chambres Syndicales, or industry-specific associations, which constitute its membership. Elected president Didier Grumbach runs it. Mr. Grumbach, entrusted with the industry’s confidence, works to define and implement measures that will help the French fashion industry grow.
Fédération Française du Prêt à Porter Féminin
The Fédération Française du Prêt à Porter Féminin is the French fashion industry’s business partner. Through its network, services, training programs and the international trade shows it presents and
participates in, the Fédération continuously encourages these businesses to be bolder and more competitive.
Institut Français de la Mode (IFM)
Institut Français de la Mode is the center in France for training, research and expertise in the fashion-design and creative industries. It was set up on 1986 by the French Ministry of Industry in tandem with textile and fashion professionals and has since become a national and international reference for students, companies and professionals.
Promosalons is a marketing organization dedicated to the promotion of international trade exhibitions on behalf of French trade show organizers. A non-profit independent organization, Promosalons has offices in more than 60 countries and ensures local representation of major French trade shows taking place in France and abroad.
Union des Industries Textiles / The Union of Textile Industries (UIT)
The Union des Industries Textiles (The Union of Textile Industries) is a professional association founded in 1900. It unites professional employers associations within the industry:
• Professional federations and branches include: cotton, wool, linen, cordage and nets, mesh, silk, lace and embroidery, artificial and synthetic textiles, finishing…
• The UIT also has regional branches around France: Aisne, Alsace, Champagne, Lorraine, South-Pyrenees, North, Normandy, Picardy, Rhone-Alpes.
Union Française des Industries de l’Habillement / French Association of Clothing Industry (UFIH)
The Union Française des Industries de l’Habillement (French Association of Clothing Industry) – the editor of LaModeFrançaise.org – is the representative of a large sector of French economic activity. The Association groups 4 National Federations and 21 Regional Associations representing manufacturers, contractors and subcontractors and stands up for the whole trade. Responsible for the design and implementation of the industry’s main guidelines, UFIH intercedes with the French government, the Parliament and the civil services, in order to improve the competitiveness of its firms.
UFIH is a member of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (Medef), Comité de Liaison des Industries de Main-d’Oeuvre (CLIMO), Comission Permanente de Concertation de l’Industrie, Comité National Anti-Contrefaçon and Association Européenne Textile-Habillement (Euratex). UFIH also plays an important role in the delivery of information to all the media and is an active partner of European authorities.
